BOTM:Ritchey Swiss Cross

What does BOTM mean? Bike of the Month of course! I build a lot of custom bikes at Capra Vélo, but it isn’t always easy to explain what is possible, or what they can look like, so a few pics and a short write up should help.

What hasn’t been said about the iconic Tom Ritchey? Not a lot, so I will let you check out this biography on a true legend. What you haven’t seen is our take on the Ritchey Swiss Cross.

Built for an ex-cyclocross racer, this bike is a do-it-all gravel, winter, anything bike. But unlike the current crop of gravel bikes that fit massive tires, kick out the front end geo, and are made more for shredding the knar than an 80’s MTB this bike is nimble and at home on and off road. It fits 40c tires no problem, fenders, and is an EXCELLENT choice for tackling any road.

  • Ritchey Swiss Cross 52cm
  • SRAM Force drivetrain
  • TRP HY/RD brakes
  • White Industries CLD centerlock hubs
  • White Industries cranks
  • Astral Wanderlust rims 24h
  • Panaracer Gravelking SS 38c tires

We chose hybrid brakes for this application to help with simplicity, field serviceability, and customized brake lever feel. Tubeless tires help add to the bad weather and bad road reliability.

The result? A tough and fun to ride bike, equally fast on good and bad roads. Got a question? Leave a comment.
